Big Bandana Bake
Baking up a storm for brain tumour research
Baking up a storm for brain tumour research
Our software developers turned their magic to baking recently, raising plenty of dough for The Brain Tumour Charity's annual Big Bandana Bake.
A feast of homemade cakes and the occasional fake bake were on offer to local businesses. From red velvet cupcakes and fruity Victoria sponges to cookies, flapjacks and cinnamon swirls, there was no shortage of sweet treats for sale. In total, a scrumptious £321 was raised, which will go directly towards The Brain Tumour Charity's campaign to fund vital research.
As the leading funder of brain tumour research in the UK, The Brain Tumour Charity's Big Bandana Bake is aiming to raise £200,000 this year which will fund a researcher for three years as they work to discover new treatments. In the UK, 102,000 people are currently living with a brain tumour with survival rates just 14%. Treatments haven't changed in 40 years, due to the underfunding of research. By 2020, The Brain Tumour Charity are aiming to halve the harm that brain tumours have on quality of life and double the survival rate by 2025.
Company Director Andrew Matthews comments, "We are delighted that our team all came together to support this fundraising event, showcasing some pretty impressive baking efforts. It was also a great opportunity to meet some of our neighbours, some of whom donated bakes of their own. My family have seen first-hand the devasting impact that being diagnosed with an untreatable brain tumour can cause. So brain tumour research is close to our hearts, and we look forward to supporting the charity with future fundraising efforts. Thank you to all who baked, ate and gave so generously!"
